WT40 Thoriated Tungsten Electrode

WT40

Introduction

Tungsten electrode is widely used in TIG or plasma arc welding which can also be called as wolfram electrode, which is a non-consumable electrode. Although WT40 thoriated tungsten electrode has radioactive element, because of this electrode material has efficient operation in the case of overload, so there are still a lot of companies will choose the WT40 electrodes.

Charateristic

WT40 thorium tungsten electrode contains 4% thorium oxide. Most of the thorium tungsten electrodes have good electron emission ability, and the electron work function is about 2.7eV, which can enhance combustion stability. Although a small amount of thorium oxide is a radioactive element and it is damage to the human body, but this type of electrode can improve the quality of welding electrode to some extent. Content of tungsten (>95.6%) is the lowest for all thorium tungsten electrode, but the content of thorium oxide is the highest, which is up to 4.20 percent. So its radioactivity will be a corresponding increase. Therefore, when using the electrode, welders should pay attention to take some protective measures.

Application

Because of the element thorium, WT40 thorium tungsten electrode is easier to promote arc, it often used in carbon and acid-resistant stainless steel welding process. This type of electrode can maintain arcing for a long time, thereby reducing contamination of the weld joint,. Thorium tungsten electrode is mainly used in DC welding. But before using, welders and other relevant staff should learn more about the relevant instructions of this type of electrode, or know a lot of information about radioactive knowledge, raise awareness of prevention.
