Zirconiated tungsten electrode

zirconiated tungsten electrode

Introduction

Zirconiated tungsten electrode mainly contains a small amount of zirconium oxide and a little yttrium and cobalt. Because pure tungsten electrode will melt itself at high load welding, resulting in contamination of the workpiece. In order to improve this problem, this new electrode was researched and developed. Zirconiated tungsten electrode solves the drawbacks of pure tungsten electrode, and maintains good corrosion resistance that enjoys wide popularity in the world.

Trademark

Since zirconiated tungsten electrode contains zirconium oxide, in according to the proportion of the zirconium oxide content, zirconiated tungsten electrode can be divided into the two trademarks WZ3 and WZ8.

Code Impurity Impurity Content% Other Impurity% Electron Work Functon Color
WZ3 ZrO2 0.20 - 0.40 < 0.20 2.5 - 3.0 Brown
WZ8 ZrO2 0.70 - 0.90 < 0.20 2.5 - 3.0 White

Characteristic

Work environment and requirements of zirconium tungsten electrode is similar with pure tungsten electrode, they all work in an alternating current while welding. Welding performance in AC of the former is much better than that of pure tungsten electrode, especially at high load currents, characteristics of zirconium tungsten electrode are more outstanding. During welding, the electrode tip can maintain the shape of the ball, and the arc stability is better than that of pure tungsten electrode. In addition, it also has good corrosion resistance.

Application

Thanks to good welding performance, zirconium tungsten electrode is widely used in welding under alternating current, and it is also suitable for high quality welding rays. However, it is not recommended for this type of electrode to be used in DC. Zirconium tungsten electrode can also be used for magnesium aluminum and its alloys in AC welding.

Content

Zirconiated tungsten contains a high content of tungsten (98~98.8%), it also adds a small amount of zirconium, 0.01 to 0.07% of yttria, and 0.01 to 0.02% cobalt. Zirconium oxide, also known as zirconium dioxide, is the main zirconium oxide of Zirconium. Under normal circumstances, it is a white powdery substance, no taste, and insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. Thanks to its excellent characteristics of higher melting point and resistivity, it is the main raw material of artificial diamond. Yttrium oxide is a crystalline powder with white and yellow, insoluble in water and alkali. Cobalt is a silvery-white ferromagnetic metallic, which is an important raw material of the production of heat-resistant alloys, alloy, corrosion alloys, magnetic alloys and a variety of cobalt salts.
