Standard Specification for Tungsten Plate, Sheet, and Foil
ASTM B760-07(2023)

1. Standard Name
Standard Specification for Tungsten Plate, Sheet, and Foil (ASTM B760-07(2023))
2. Issuing Organization
ASTM International
3. Standard Nature
This summary is compiled based on publicly available information and is intended for technical introduction and standard framework explanation only. It does not include the copyrighted full standard or complete data tables.
4. Abstract
This specification covers wrought, unalloyed tungsten plate, sheet, and foil. All types of tungsten flat products should be formed using conventional rolling, forging, or extrusion equipment typically found in major ferrous and nonferrous metal production facilities.
Ingot or billet metal should be densified by powder metallurgy or vacuum arc melting processes. The content of carbon, oxygen, nitrogen, iron, nickel, and silicon must meet the specified chemical composition requirements.
Tungsten plate, sheet, and foil shall be supplied in the following metallurgical conditions: hot-rolled, stress-relieved, or cold-rolled. Materials must also comply with allowable tolerances for thickness, width, length, and flatness.

5. Scope
1.Covers wrought, unalloyed tungsten plate, sheet, and foil.
2.Values in imperial units are standard; values in parentheses are SI conversions for reference only.
3.Safety notes apply only to the test methods within this specification. Users are responsible for establishing appropriate safety, health, and environmental management measures and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
4.This international standard is based on principles of internationally recognized standardization, as established by the WTO Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

6. Product Classification
Products are classified by thickness:
Foil: Ultra-thin
Sheet: Medium thickness
Plate: Thick material
7. Materials and Manufacturing
Raw materials are typically prepared by powder metallurgy or vacuum arc melting, followed by plastic deformation through rolling, forging, or extrusion to shape the product.
8. Delivery Condition
Hot-rolled, cold-rolled, or stress-relieved.
9. Chemical Composition Control
1.Limits are set for impurity elements including C, O, N, Fe, Ni, Si, etc., with tungsten (W) as the balance.
2.Chemical analysis should follow relevant ASTM test methods.
10. Dimensions and Tolerances
1.Thickness tolerances are specified by the standard.
2.Width, length, and flatness requirements may follow the standard or be agreed upon by supplier and purchaser.
3.Flatness is expressed as the maximum deviation per unit length.
11. Inspection and Acceptance
1.Materials must undergo chemical composition testing.
2.Re-testing is allowed when necessary.
3.Materials must be free of cracks, delamination, or severe inclusions.
4.Inspection batches are typically defined by melt or processing batch.
12. Ordering Information
Orders should specify product form, dimensions, quantity, delivery condition, inspection requirements, and quality certificate needs.
13. Marking and Packaging
1.Materials should be clearly marked with specification, batch number, or heat number.
2.Packaging should prevent contamination and mechanical damage.
14. Unit System
The standard uses imperial (inch) units primarily, with SI units provided for reference.
Note: For complete standard clauses and full technical data, it is recommended to purchase the official standard directly from ASTM to ensure the most accurate and up-to-date information.
