What Is Tungsten Plate?

Tungsten plate is a plate-shaped tungsten mill product made from high-purity tungsten (typically W≥99.95%). It is produced through powder metallurgy pressing, high-temperature sintering for densification, followed by hot rolling or cold rolling deformation processing and subsequent precision machining. It represents one of the fundamental forms of tungsten materials. Through the rolling process, the material density can be increased and the grain structure can be refined, giving the plate good structural stability and machinability. Depending on application requirements, various thickness specifications and processing conditions can be supplied to meet the manufacturing needs of high-temperature structural and functional components.

From a performance perspective, tungsten plate has an extremely high melting point of about 3410 °C and a high density of about 19.3 g/cm³. Its thermal conductivity at room temperature is approximately 170–180 W/(m·K), the linear expansion coefficient is about 4.5×10⁻⁶/K, and the elastic modulus is around 400 GPa. It therefore offers excellent high-temperature strength retention and low vapor pressure characteristics. Tungsten plates can operate stably for long periods in vacuum or inert atmospheres, making them widely used in vacuum furnace hot-zone components, single crystal growth systems, sputtering target back plates, ion implantation structural parts, and radiation shielding structures. As a result, tungsten plate is regarded as an important base material for high-temperature equipment.
