Tungsten Crucible Precautions

CTIA GROUP has over 30 years of experience in tungsten crucible manufacturing and application in sapphire crystal growth, metal melting, and high-temperature material processing. Tungsten crucible can operate stably at 1800–2600°C under vacuum or inert atmosphere, but it is sensitive to oxidation and thermal shock. Proper control of atmosphere, heating rate, loading method, and operation procedures is essential to prevent oxidation, thermal damage, and structural failure. Key precautions of tungsten crucible are as follows:

1. Preparation Prior to Use of CTIA’s Tungsten Crucible
Tungsten crucible should be inspected for cracks, deformation, and surface defects before use. For first-time use or long-term storage, slow preheating is recommended under vacuum or high-purity inert gas to remove absorbed moisture and volatile impurities. Preheating temperature is typically above 500°C.

Loading ratio should generally not exceed 80% of effective volume to allow thermal expansion and prevent overflow or stress concentration. Proper selection of crucible size, wall thickness, and structure is required to ensure uniform temperature distribution.

2. Key Operating Controls for CTIA’s Tungsten Crucible
Tungsten crucible is sensitive to thermal shock during heating and cooling. Temperature change rate must be strictly controlled to avoid cracking or deformation. Tungsten crucible operating parameters is shown in picture below:

High-temperature operation in air must be avoided to prevent oxidation and formation of tungsten oxides. During melting, process conditions should be monitored to prevent overloading, splashing, or abnormal reactions.

3. Post-Use Handling and Storage of CTIA’s Tungsten Crucible
Tungsten crucible should be cooled naturally to room temperature. Rapid cooling or forced cooling must be avoided. Cleaning should be performed using soft cloth or neutral cleaning methods, avoiding hard or sharp tools that may damage the surface.
Store in a dry, clean environment away from humidity and corrosive atmospheres. Sealed packaging or desiccated storage is recommended to prevent oxidation and contamination. Stacking should be avoided to reduce deformation risk. Inspection is required before reuse after long-term storage.

Proper operation procedures are essential to ensure stable performance of tungsten crucible. Controlled heating, optimized loading, and standardized maintenance significantly improve service life and thermal field stability.
