What's Evaporation Tungsten Boat?
What’s Evaporation Tungsten Boat?
Evaporation tungsten boat, also known as tungsten boat, tungsten evaporation boat or thermal evaporation tungsten boat, is a high-purity boat-shaped resistance heating element used in vacuum thermal evaporation coating processes. CTIA's tungsten boat is typically manufactured from high-purity tungsten sheet through precise stamping, bending, or welding processes. It features a boat-shaped structure with a central recess designed to hold materials, while both ends extend out as electrode connection zones to achieve stable electrification and highly efficient heating.
Why Can Evaporation Tungsten Boat Work Stably at High Temperatures?
The high-temperature performance of CTIA's evaporation tungsten boat originates from the physical characteristics of the tungsten material itself. The melting point of tungsten is approximately 3,422°C, which enables tungsten boat to operate stably for long periods in high-temperature environments above 1,800°C without significant softening or deformation. With a density of approximately 19.25 g/cm³ and an extremely low vapor pressure, tungsten boat exhibits minimal self-volatilization at elevated temperatures, thereby effectively reducing the risk of thin-film contamination. The excellent electrical and thermal conductivity of tungsten, combined with its low coefficient of thermal expansion and outstanding corrosion resistance, further enhances the stability and service life of tungsten boat in complex vacuum environments.
How Does Evaporation Tungsten Boat Work?
CTIA's evaporation tungsten boat operates through resistance heating during the working process. Tungsten boat converts electrical energy into thermal energy, causing the metal material (such as aluminum, silver, gold, etc.) loaded inside the recess to quickly reach its vaporization temperature. In a high-vacuum environment, the material within tungsten boat escapes in the form of atoms or molecules and deposits onto target substrate surfaces, forming a dense, uniform, and highly adherent functional thin film. This process belongs to the thermal evaporation technology system within physical vapor deposition (PVD).
What Are Applications of Evaporation Tungsten Boat?
CTIA's evaporation tungsten boat is widely utilized in fields such as semiconductor coating, optical thin-film preparation, LED chip manufacturing, solar cell electrode deposition, and scientific research material testing to enhance process stability and thin-film uniformity in demanding vacuum evaporation systems.
