1. Scope
This standard specifies requirements for classification of nonconsumable tungsten electrodes used in gas tungsten arc welding, plasma arc welding, cutting processes, and thermal spraying.

2. Classification
The standard classifies tungsten electrodes according to the type and content of oxide additives. Major grades include WP (pure tungsten), WT series (thoriated tungsten), WC20 (ceriated tungsten), WL series (lanthanated tungsten), WZ8 (zirconiated tungsten), and WY20 (yttriated tungsten). A unified color coding system is used for identification.

3. Technical Requirements
3.1 Chemical Composition
The standard specifies the oxide content range and allowable deviation for each tungsten electrode grade. For example, the thorium oxide content of WT20 shall be controlled within 1.8%–2.2% to ensure stable welding performance.
3.2 Dimensions and Tolerances
The standard covers common sizes ranging from 0.25 mm to 10.0 mm in diameter. Standard lengths are typically 150 mm and 175 mm. Requirements are specified for diameter tolerance, length tolerance, and straightness.
3.3 Surface Quality
The surface of tungsten electrodes shall be smooth and free from cracks, delamination, burrs, or other defects that may affect performance.
3.4 Color Coding
The standard specifies a unified color code for each grade. For example, WP is green, WT20 is red, WC20 is gray, WL20 is blue, and WZ8 is white.

4. Marking and Packaging
Product packaging shall indicate the standard number, grade, dimensions, weight, production batch number, and manufacturer information. Appropriate packaging shall be used to prevent damage or contamination during transportation and storage.
