Tungsten Electrode in Spot Welding
Spot welding tungsten electrode refers to a special electrode used in Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) processes, primarily for joining highly conductive and high thermal conductivity metals such as copper, aluminum, nickel, and silver. Unlike conventional steel sheet spot welding, which commonly uses copper chromium zirconium electrodes, tungsten electrodes offer a higher melting point, greater hardness, and excellent anti-sticking properties, making them particularly suitable for welding highly conductive materials and precision components. During the welding process, the tungsten electrode transfers current and pressure while maintaining a stable electrode shape, ensuring weld quality and consistency.

1. Working Principle of Tungsten Electrode in Spot Welding
Spot welding follows the principle of resistance heating. After the upper and lower tungsten electrodes clamp the workpieces together, a high current passes through the contact area, generating Joule heat (Q=I²Rt) and rapidly melting the localized metal to form a weld nugget. After the current is switched off, the nugget solidifies under pressure to create the weld joint. Tungsten has a melting point of up to 3422°C, allowing it to maintain dimensional stability at elevated temperatures while quickly dissipating excess heat. This concentrates heat within the workpiece contact area rather than the electrode itself, improving welding stability and electrode service life.
